National Export Strategy Operational Virtual Workshop
The National Export Strategy (NES) is part of Sri Lanka's overall trade policy framework, and its implementation is part of the Government's national trade agenda. The NES provides a coherent framework for prioritized interventions by the Government, private sector, and international partners to address Sri Lanka's export challenges and leverage market opportunities.
Implementing NES through an effective governance structure will translate NES priorities to impactful projects that will reform the regulatory framework, optimize institutional support to exporters, and strengthen private sector capacities. A coherent and resourced coordination structure ensures that national trade development efforts do not occur in isolation and are aligned to priorities defined by policymakers and industry stakeholders. To fast-track the implementation of NES priorities, it was essential to ensure the necessary conditions for implementation and coordination were rapidly operational. With this in mind, the Government of Sri Lanka and industry stakeholders agreed on an NES governance structure to be operational since the launch of NES in 2018.
The NES Management Unit (NESMU) was established as a fundamental pillar of the NES governing framework. The NESMU strengthens coordination amongst all implementing agencies; encourages alignment with national initiatives; tracks and monitor’s progress; mobilises resources for implementation; and, communicates the impactful progress.
This workshop will guide you through a series of deep-dive sessions on the aforementioned operating areas of the NESMU. Concluding this workshop, you will have a thorough understanding of how you – as a NES champion – can collaborate and coordinate with the NESMU to spearhead implementation.
